The Creative Dance Center’s resident modern dance company, Kaleidoscope Dance Company, presents Kaleidoscope in Concert at the Broadway Performance Hall Mother’s Day weekend, May 8, 9, and 10. This rich and diverse show features new works by local and nationally recognized choreographers. Kaleidoscope’s unique blend of talent, enthusiasm, and soul will delight and captivate audiences of all ages.

Seattle dance icon, Wade Madsen, created Bees after witnessing the seeming chaos but actual order of a hive harvesting honey. A playful romp exploring young love and rejection choreographed by Jim Coleman and Terese Freedman, Do Run Run is set to three wonderful songs of the 1960's, Blue Moon, Stand by Me, and Runaround Sue. With music composed by Seattleite Chad Beieler, Ellie Sandstrom’s In Relation To looks at the human experience through our connection to one another. Rhonda Cinotto was inspired by the playful dancing figures made famous by Keith Haring. From Here to There combines angular shapes of the body and complex rhythmic patterns in a light-hearted jazz dance. The boys and young men of Kaleidoscope are featured in a work created especially for them by Michael Garber; Comradery explores the disconnect that society has created for boys and men distancing them from their qualities of nurturing, creativity, and expression.

Kaleidoscope Artistic Director Anna Mansbridge premieres two new works, Rocks Beneath Water created in collaboration with harpist Leslie McMichael and performed with live music and We Are One created with the dancers surrounding the idea of identity set to a commissioned sound score by Mark D. Cooper. Louisa Fish-Sadin explores concepts of forest succession and ecology as the dancers embody decomposition, growth, and the life and death of a forest to poetry, song, and soundscape. Sylvie Baldwin contrasts the three dimensionality of the human spirit against society's expectations for individuals on Cutouts. Kaleidoscope graduate Arthur Stamey-Mills’ playful Nonsense is set to the fun and upbeat music of French electro swing group Caravan Palace.  Works by James Brosnahan, an energetic dance to Count Basie and Duke Ellington, and the Kaleidoscope dancers round out this meaningful, entertaining, and mesmerizing concert.

Kaleidoscope in Concert celebrates the joy of dance with an exceptional balance of youth and professionalism. Kaleidoscope Dance Company is made up of young people ages 7-17.
