Dance & Art

Ages 4 ½-6 years

Discover and experience the connections between dance and the visual arts. This fun-filled class will include movement explorations through improvisation, dance skills, interaction with peers, story time, and dance-making. Students’ creativity is sparked through hands-on art activities. Dance & Art class celebrates the artist in your child!
 
Clothing
Children will be doing hands-on art projects and should dress accordingly. Paint shirts will be provided.
Girls: dance clothes such as leotards, footless tights, dance skirts, etc., t-shirts, leggings, bare feet.
Boys: sweat pants/shorts, t-shirts, bare feet.

Hip Hop

Grades 2-5

This fun and engaging Hip Hop class will explore the various street dance styles that have developed from the vibrant culture of Hip Hop, through the lens of the concepts of dance. Dancers will learn technique and movement vocabulary from HipHop Silhouettesbreaking, locking, and popping, as well as commercial/new style, House dance, and Hip Hop dance moves of past decades. Have fun discovering the way smooth and sharp, strong and light, high and low feel as you move in this dance style. Dancers have the opportunity to develop their own voice through learning how to free-style and creating their own dances.

Sneakers required.

Modern Dance

Dive into the creative and challenging world of modern dance. Explore the fundamental movement patterns of the BrainDance, the elements of dance, develop dance technique, and create, collaborate, and choreograph. As dancers gain experience the techniques of counterbalance, weight-sharing, partnering, and lifts are introduced. Modern dance strengthens the body and mind as students become skilled movers and choreographers.
 

Creative Modern

Grades 1-3

More technically challenging than Creative Dance, this class is for dancers ready to learn more skills while continuing to have fun improvising and choreographing.

Clothing

Girls: dance clothes such as leotards, footless tights, dance shorts, t-shirts, leggings, stretch pants, bare feet, hair should be pulled back from the face.

Boys: sweat pants/shorts, t-shirts, bare feet.

Modern

Grades 2-8+

These 2 hour technique classes allow time for students to experience the BrainDance, explore movement concepts, develop dance technique and skills, work with partners and in small and large groups, and become familiar with choreographic forms and devices as they create and compose their own dances. By taking an active role in their own learning, students become skilled dancers and choreographers. Live Accompaniment.

Ballet

The art of ballet teaches expressivity, focus and self-discipline, awareness of body mechanics, alignment, and musicality. The richness and depth that comes from using a conceptual and brain-compatible approach is what makes our ballet program unique in the region. Our ballet classes nurture and support technical and creative growth in dancers of all ages!
 

Pre-Ballet

Grade K-1

A fun and creative introduction to ballet class. Exploring ballet technique through the dance concepts nurtures the whole dancer. Musicality, improvisation, and skill development are all a part of this developmentally appropriate ballet class. Ballet shoes required.

Ballet

Grades 2-6+

These ballet technique classes are developmentally appropriate and there is a focus on healthy alignment. Barre and center work is done but we also include time for exploring the dance concepts of Space, Time, Force, and Body through improvisation, partner work for social-emotional connections with peers, and developing choreographic skills by teaching forms and devices so students can create their own dances. Barre work begins in Ballet I. Dancers should enjoy the focus and attention that barre work requires. Whole body/mind movement is used as recuperation during and after barre. Classes are offered in a relaxed and supportive learning environment. Ballet shoes required.
